Expected to be an event focused on Windows, the Build 2018 by Microsoft became a platform for a variety of announcements and launches. Among the many things announced, the conjunction of Alexa and Cortana is the best one to be noted. Microsoft announced that users will be soon able to use Alexa and Cortana in a useful conjunction. It essentially means that you can use Alexa-based services via Cortana and likewise. For instance, users will be able to book an Uber using their Windows PC. On the other hand, those who have an Amazon Echo can access Cortana appointments via the voice-controlled device. Although the developments of this conjunction has been long, Microsoft has not announced the official launch date, but the beta stage is open now.
In a rather noticeable move, Microsoft also announced that Azure IoT Edge was becoming open-source so that the coding community can use the code, modify and use it for other purposes. The event being focused on Windows, this was a different take, but now, users have better control over apps built with Edge. There are also some other minor announcements like Kinect for Azure, which has to do with AI and sensors. Azure Bot Service was also overwhelmed with around 100 features, which will be increasing the usability as well as the overall control.
In addition to the developer tools, Microsoft Build 2018 also saw the announcements of other things like the brand-new Windows on Mobile. It seems that Microsoft Windows is in plans to create a platform that can bridge the gap between Windows and popular mobile platforms. Using Your Phone app, users will be able to create a link between their smartphone and the PC and exchange information between them. There were also updates regarding Windows Timeline and Windows Launcher, available respectively for iOS and Android.
